Vandenberg Breaks Meet Record @ Janet Evans Invitational

Kim Vandenberg broke the meet record in the 200m Butterfly today at the Janet Evans Invitational. The reigning summer national champion and world championship silver medalist defended her Janet Evans title, clocking 2 minutes, 8.02 seconds to lower the 2004 standard belonging to former Stanford All-American Dana Kirk (2:08.40).

“I think, if anything, it motivated me,” said Vandenberg, who dropped more than 4 seconds off her winning time at last year’s meet to continue her pursuit of Misty Hyman’s 2000 American record of 2:05.88. “I’m surprised I went that time, considering I haven’t had a chance to rest at all.”
