Vandenberg Continues Making Waves

As a native of California, 2007 World Championships silver medalist Kim Vandenberg has been churning the waters of her home state all her life. But in the last two years, the National Teamer made waves in new water as she began creeping onto the international scene.
Vandenberg’s world debut began when she hit the wall first in her signature event, the 200m butterfly, at the 2006 Conoco Phillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif. Her gold-medal performance qualified the UCLA graduate for both the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, British Columbia and the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

After placing sixth at Pan Pacs in the 200 fly just days after competing at Nationals, Vandenberg returned to UCLA, where she completed her eligibility in 2006, to resume training and taking classes.

Seven months later, Vandenberg established herself on the international stage when she won her silver medal at Worlds.
