Mendoza Named to 2008 Olympic Softball Team
Jessica Mendoza, who was a key part of the U.S. softball’s gold-medal winning team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, was one of 18 players selected to the U.S. roster for the 2008 games in Beijing.
Mendoza has been one of the top run producers for the U.S. national team since the 2001 season.
In 2006, she played a major role in the U.S. winning its first World Cup as well as its seventh World Championship title, including hitting the game-winning home run in the gold-medal game.
She was named USA Softball’s Player of the Year in 2006. Mendoza hit .417 this past summer for the national team, contributing 17 RBIs and three homers in 20 starts. She also had two triples and scored a team-high 23 runs.
