Joyce Swimming Up To Expectations
Kara Lynn Joyce is no stranger to living with high expectations. The daughter of two former swimmers who both come from large swimming families, Joyce swam for her mom, Kathy, a coach at the Ann Arbor Swim Club, for the first 10 years of her swimming career. The youngest of three and the only girl, she spent her early years in and out of the pool chasing her older brothers, Sean and Kevin, who swam collegiately at Eastern Michigan University.
When she made the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team, she handled the expectations placed upon her with grace and focus.
Now, less than a year away from swimming for what she hopes will be her second Olympic Team next summer at Trials in Omaha, Joyce continues to carry America’s hopes as one of the favorites to become the first American Olympic female sprint freestyle gold medalist since Amy Van Dyken won at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
