Yoga for Foodies – Long Weekend vs. Long Haul: Indulgent Yoga Escapes

Lazy days of summer? Yeah, right! After months of outdoor entertaining, patio imbibing and day-tripping, it’s safe to say that we all could take a few deep breaths come fall. These two yoga escapes-one half a world away, the other just next door in the desert-combine serious vinyasa time with luxuries like decadent food, lush rooms, and serene spas. Om run!

Long Weekend: It might not seem like downward-facing dogs and salsa have anything in common, but yoga and southwestern cuisine will be colliding from December 2-5 at Mii Amo retreat’s Yoga for Foodies weekend. The workout craze, developed by yogi David Romanelli, has been touring the country all year-this stop, in Sedona, AZ, will be its last for 2010. For two full days, participant will be privy to morning and evening yoga sessions of varying intensity, followed by tastings of wine, chocolate and local cuisine. And in between the stretching and snacking, choose from hiking, art classes and more activities, all included in the package price.

Long Haul: Use bathing elephants as your focal point for tree pose at the Quantum Yoga & Safari Retreat, held at various boutique lodges throughout Kenya. The week starts at the Sasaab lodge, where game drives, infinity pool dips, local walks and treatments in the Liz Earle-stocked spa will be interspersed with yoga sessions. Stints at Solio (a lodge in the middle of a game reserve) and Giraffe Manor-by the end of the retreat, you’re bound to be feeling as zen-like as the hotel’s namesake animal.
