Kelly Clark wins Snow Angels Invitational

Snow Angels riders get Aspen pow fix before the big halfpipe show.

On an overcast Saturday at Aspen Snowmass, with more than two feet of fresh snow having fallen on the slopes in the week leading up to the event, Kelly Clark took home a prize of $10,000 for winning the third annual COVERGIRL Snow Angels Invitational superpipe competition. This was the second year in a row that Clark has taken first place in the event.

The competition was fierce, with 15 of the world’s best women snowboarders competing on the new 22-foot Olympic-sized superpipe in Snowmass. Standout riders included Maddy Schaffrick with her 720 Haakonflip, Kelly Clark with her ridiculously huge airs and spins — which won her the Barbie Style Award for a 15-foot double stiffy straight air — and Ellery Hollingsworth’s laybacks.

Even with the grey bird conditions, everyone had a great time and followed up the contest with an autograph session and poolside party at the new Viceroy Hotel.

“Having the COVERGIRL Snow Angels Invitational here in Snowmass is awesome. It’s the end of the year, and it’s a low pressure environment,” said Gretchen Bleiler, the event host. “It’s so amazing to bring all the girls together. Staying at the Viceroy in Snowmass is definitely the biggest treat of the this year’s event.”

Final results:
1st – Kelly Clark – $10,000
2nd – Ursina Holler – $4,500
3rd – Soko Yamaoka – $2,000
4th – Paulina Ligocka – $1,000
5th – Gretchen Bleiler- $500
