SOS Outreach Concludes Season With Gretchen Bleiler

SOS Outreach, a youth development non-profit organization, is closing out the 2011-2012 ski season at Beaver Creek by hosting pro rider Gretchen Bleiler, who will spend the day this Saturday, March 31 riding with 142 SOS Outreach youth participants from Eagle County. Bleiler, a K2 pro rider, former Olympian and X-Games gold medal winner, will be on the slopes with participants working to show them where they can land by working hard in and out of school and following through with their goals and dreams

SOS works to get at-risk youth outdoors and involved in their communities through sports and leadership programs. This year SOS will serve 5,000 youth in 15 states nationwide and internationally in New Zealand. K2, a long standing supporter of SOS, has given nearly $150,000 and in-kind donations to SOS programs since 2008.

The event will take place this Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm at Beaver Creek Ski Resort. This weekend will mark the last ride days of the season for the Eagle County University program, which serves 255 local youth through multi-year leadership programs.

Youth participating in SOS programs are often underserved in that they come from low-income families, single-parent households, are involved in the court system or are demonstrating poor academic achievement. SOS combats this problem by providing high quality programs that positively impacts self-esteem, provides opportunities for youth to participate positively in their community, supports youth through mentorship and encourages character education. By using outdoor activity as an incentive, SOS can infuse life skills into the curriculum.
