Knight is finalist for Sportswoman of the Year
Sun Valley’s Hilary Knight is a finalist for the 2016 Sportswoman of the Year award selected by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The award is based on achievements between Aug. 2015 and Aug. 2016.
Online voting has started and will conclude Sunday, Sept. 11 at 9:59 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time. Visit http://teamusa.usahockey.com/news_article/show/694857?referrer_id=701370 and click.
Knight, 27, has ranked among the world’s most dominant women’s ice hockey players for the last decade. She has been honored with the 2016 USA Hockey Bob Johnson Award for excellence in international hockey competition.
This year, Knight competed in her eighth International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championship. She led all tournament skaters with seven goals and nine points and lifted the U.S. Women’s National Team to its third consecutive gold medal and her sixth overall.
The 5-11 forward was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament and best forward.
Knight spent the 2015-16 season with the Boston Pride, where she led the professional league with 15 goals and 18 assists in 17 games to help the Pride claim the first-ever Isobel Cup as part of the inaugural season of the National Women’s Hockey League.
Winners of the Women’s Sports Foundation awards are determined by a combination of a public vote (50%) and the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Awards Committee’s vote (50%). The winners are the two athletes-one individual finalist and one team finalist-who receive the highest combined share of the public vote and the Awards Committee’s vote.
