Jamie Anderson takes Second at Women’s Slopestyle Snowboarding World Cup in Quebec City
The top two steps of the podium were draped in red, white and blue Sunday afternoon as Julia Marino and Jamie Anderson gave Team USA a 1-2 sweep at the women’s slopestyle snowboarding world cup in Quebec City.
Marino took the win with a first-run score of 76.43, good enough to surpass Anderson’s 72.78. Canada’s Brooke Voigt earned a third in front of her countrymen, posting a second run 67.63 to slip past Great Britain’s Katie Ormerod.
Reaffirming that she will be hunting for two medals at next year’s Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Marino garnered the first slopestyle world cup win of her career less than 24 hours after claiming her second big air podium of the season. The 19-year-old has strung together five world cup podiums and eight top-10 finishes across both disciplines since bursting onto the scene with a big air win a year ago in Boston’s Fenway Park. Two weeks ago she made her X Games debut, picking up slopestyle gold and big air bronze in Aspen, Colorado.
The reigning Olympic slopestyle champion, Anderson notches her third podium of the season after opening with a third place in Laax, Switzerland last month and taking the win last week at Mammoth Mountain, California, at the first Olympic qualifying event. She also has a big air victory on the ledger, taken in December in Copper Mountain, Colorado. The most decorated rider in X Games slopestyle history, Anderson earned her 12th X Games medal when she took silver last month in Aspen.
