Vacation comes with summer and I couldn’t be more excited for summer this year. Typically I do a few trips throughout the summer: vacation with my entire family to a very small island off the coast of Louisiana, a trip with my boyfriend to see his family and then a trip with some of my best girlfriends from college – and this year will be no exception. As part of my love for food and travel, I have decided to take a trip each year to a different country and take cooking/culinary classes to learn more about different types of cuisines and where they originated. We’re in the midst of a foodie revolution and food and travel are two passions go together like spaghetti and meatballs. Like chicken and curry or farmers’ markets and fresh produce. It’s a match made in heaven, and hardcore travelers will tell you that trying a destination’s cuisine is one of the most enhancing experiences of a trip!

Growing up in upstate NY, my favorite Memorial Day tradition by far is to go up to Lake George to spend time at a friend’s lake house. There is always an excitement in the air as more and more families come up to celebrate summer really starting. For those of you who don’t know, Lake George is a beautiful lake with the cutest town where you can shop, take ferry rides, eat delicious foods and watch the fireworks. I have been going to LG since I was a young child and for me, it’s always the best place to kick the summer off right.

Where to begin! I’ve been so lucky to have vacationed to many amazing, beautiful places throughout the country and world. Ever since I was very young my family and I have traveled to Scottsdale, Arizona for spring breaks, winter breaks and weekend getaways – great location for shopping, eating and lounging by the pool. Now that I live in California I have been doing a lot of weekend getaways within the state. I am heading to San Francisco for Memorial Day and am excited to explore the city!

If I have to choose one, I’d have to say the Amalfi Coast in Italy is my all-time favorite spot. Endless chill vibes with people lounging in the clear, blue shores for hours on end. Best part, wine is more prevalent than water (wasn’t mad). Sorrento was by far one of the most beautiful cities along the coast, and also the home to limoncello, a delicious lemon liquor you sip at dessert. And the beautiful accents, people and pasta were the cherry to the perfect, indulgent getaway.

I recently stayed at the Estanica Hotel in La Jolla and it was a dream staycation! The pool, restaurants and staff were absolutely wonderful – I wish I could go every weekend! I definitely recommend trying Juniper and Ivy for dinner (owned by Top Chef winner Richard Blais) and George’s for brunch (best restaurant view EVER). No matter if you go far or close to home, it’s always a good time to explore a new destination.
