The keto diet has been taking the wellness, fitness and weight loss industry by storm. If you don’t know, a ketogenic diet consists of a high-fat, adequate-protein, and low-carb diet, with the goal to eat more calories from protein and fat than carbs. As a result of the low carbohydrate intake, your body depletes its sugar stores and will start to break down protein and fat for energy, allowing your body to enter ketosis. People are turning to this diet to help them lose weight, cure their acne, improve heart health and protect brain health.

However, while many are finding benefits from the keto diet, S&Co. client Dr. Robert Zembroski points out six signs that the keto diet may not be working for you. One sign is you may be experiencing vitamin deficiency. Dr. Zembroski explains, “Most high-protein and high-fat diets don’t permit a high intake of healthful carbohydrates from fruits and starchy vegetables. By omitting those carbs from your diet, you risk not taking in enough B vitamins (including folate), vitamin C, and fiber. These nutrients are vital for your body.”
