Q: What has been your favorite college class?
BH: My favorite college class was one I took at FIDM called Beauty Global Business. It was all about understanding how the beauty industry works in different places in the world and dissecting their various approaches to marketing. I really enjoyed looking at all the different ways culture plays into marketing, especially within the beauty business.
KM: Photography because it was different from my other classes and I have an interest in photography. I also really enjoy my communications classes, like Communications Law and Policy and Sports PR.
SS: I think one of my favorite college classes has been Presentation & Graphic Design because I really got to explore the aesthetic world of presentations, which is such a handy skill to have. I also learned Adobe Illustrator, which has now become a hobby of mine to play around with.
MD: My favorite college class thus far would have to be a Communications Studies course called Primetime Crime where we studied all of the different forms of communication scripted into popular crime television shows. We basically got to watch a bunch of Criminal Minds and Law & Order to learn about effective and ineffective rhetorical strategies!
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
BH: My favorite TV show is The Office, for obvious reasons.
KM: The Office.
SS: I’m not a huge television watcher and I’m not super up-to-date with modern shows, so that’s why my answer to this question is SpongeBob SquarePants– a timeless classic!
MD: Gossip Girl.
Q: What is your favorite food?
BH: My favorite food is pasta, specifically spaghetti Bolognese.
KM: Baked Ziti or almost any Italian food.
SS: All Mexican/Latin American food for sure. Tacos, burritos, chicken and rice– I love it all. My runner-up is chicken pad thai!
MD: Donuts. I have a weak spot for anything sweet.
Q: Foods you dislike?
BH: The only food I don’t enjoy is eggplant because I have yet to understand its purpose as a vegetable.
KM: Olives and eggs.
SS: I am not a huge fan of Chinese food or sushi with fish! I also hate seafood. I’m not even a huge fan of Italian food even though I’m half Italian.
MD: Raw fish, that’s the one thing I can’t do.
Q: Favorite place to eat or restaurant?
BH: My favorite place to eat since I’ve been in the US has been In-n-Out.
KM: Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria in New Haven, CT.
SS: I am a huge fan of the chain Qdoba for a quick bowl of chicken, rice, beans, pico de gallo, lime and guacamole– in fact I probably spend way too much money there but it’s good!
MD: Any Mexican restaurant because I love the food and the environment is also always a good time!
Q: Favorite dish to make yourself?
BH: My favorite dishes to make myself are any type of Japanese dish as it reminds me of home.
KM: Chicken quesadillas with peach mango salsa. They are easy to make and taste really good.
SS: Upon moving out to Cali and having to cook my own meals without a campus dining hall plan, I discovered the best (and currently the only) meal I make is lime chicken with rice, beans, corn, guacamole, and lime. If you haven’t noticed, I don’t switch it up too often.
MD: I can’t really cook but I can make pretty good breakfast burritos!
Q: Are you a morning or night person?
BH: I’m definitely more of morning person, I can never sleep in and will always wake up at around 6 or 7am.
KM: Night person.
SS: Both! I can wake up early with no problem, but I also love staying up late with friends!
MD: Most definitely a night person.
Q: What do you like to do when you have a day off or to yourself?
BH: When I have a day off, I love to go to the beach, try a new place to eat, or explore more of LA that I’ve never visited before.
KM: When I have a day off I like to explore LA with my friends and when I have a day at home I like to relax and watch Netflix.
SS: I love to exercise, go thrift shopping, read, and go out exploring with my friends!
MD: I always make sure to get a workout in and then usually just relax, go shopping, or grab lunch or dinner with friends or family!
Q: Favorite city to visit?
BH: My favorite city to visit is Tokyo as I get to eat great food, visit family and friends, and enjoy the company of my dogs back home.
KM: New York City or Chicago, although I haven’t been there in a while.
SS: Visiting Los Angeles has been such a cool experience, it’s an awesome city. However, I’m from just outside Manhattan so I’ll have to say I have slight favoritism! I also love my college town of Ithaca, NY.
MD: Honolulu, Hawaii.
Q: Favorite book?
BH: Michelle Knight’s autobiography, Finding Me: A Decade of Darkness, a Life Reclaimed, was a book I read recently that I really enjoyed and I still think about, despite have finished it over two months ago.
KM: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling.
SS: I have a book called Body Kindness by Rebecca Scritchfield and it’s an awesome book to read about healthy lifestyle tips, self-love, and nutrition (which are all interests of mine!) Aside from that, I really love modern poetry books like ones by r.h. sin and Rupi Kaur.
MD: To Kill a Mockingbird has always been one that has stuck with me.
Q: If you could live with only one: Instagram, Facebook or Twitter?
BH: Instagram. I don’t use any other social media!
KM: Instagram.
SS: Definitely Instagram! I love using it to promote messages that are important to me, and following others that do the same. I love analyzing the marketing and advertising trends of different brands through Instagram as well.
MD: Instagram.
Q: Is there anything specific you want to do while you’re in LA?
BH: While I still live in LA I would love to go to the observatory at night, I’ve been in the day but I always wanted to see LA’s cityscape at night and see how it compares to Tokyo!
KM: There are so many things I still want to do. A few things are tour Warner Brothers Studio and go to the Griffith Observatory at night.
SS: I really want to try surfing lessons! I also can’t wait to travel inland to the Sequoia forest, and hopefully end my semester here with a trip to San Francisco!
MD: I’ve always wanted to go to the Getty Museum because I’ve heard its incredible but I haven’t been able to make it over there yet.
