Happy October
I had lunch on Friday with my friend Karla. Karla is someone I’ve known for several years – I don’t see her often, but when I do, I’m overjoyed and feel an immediate sense of gratitude. She is a magical human being and I call her “Earth Mother” because of her warmth and nurturing nature. And because she is so powerful. She’s definitely an “I’ll have what she’s having” kind of person.
My experience of Karla is that no matter what she’s going through, and despite the typical trials and tribulations of life, she seems to bring grace. She exudes it. She’s present. She seems to bring a loving and kind approach even to challenging situations. What we all strive for.
She’s currently building a business and, like the rest of us, has things going on in life. And her tools for staying grounded range from consistent 30-minute daily meditation to hypnotherapy, and, as she calls them, “Jedi mind tricks” (AKA positive, motivational self-talk).
Aside from feeling a full heart after our hour and a half together, I was also reminded that even Karla, the “Earth Mother,” needs her practices and tools to stay her best. It takes work. Self-care is no joke. The only way we can show up for others is to show up for ourselves first. No doubt this was just what I needed to hear right now in light of the craziness of my life at the moment.
Needless to say, I am grateful for that reminder and for our time together. I urge everyone to take care of yourselves so you too can be present, bring grace and be your best for yourself and those around you.
xx
