From the Founder, January 2019
Happy January and wow, welcome to 2019!
Hope everyone had a restful and relaxing holiday season (if that’s even possible).
Naturally, going into the new year I’m reflecting on the past year, lessons learned and what’s next. Bernard (my magical 13-year young dog who still lives with puppy-like energy and enthusiasm) is the best teacher and has always been a spiritual guide for me. Here are 10 very important things that Bernard reminds me of each and every day:
– Go for a walk. Walking clears your head. Walking with loved ones is relaxing and quality time.
– Live with enthusiasm. Bernard is as happy about his “special treat” (aka his nightly dental chew) as I would be about winning the lottery. He is easily pleased (understatement) and exudes his joy.
– Naps are important. We should take them often and with loved ones.
– Don’t underestimate the value of a good roll in the grass. It’s all about the simple things in life. Nature is grounding.
– Play! Break into a gallop at a moment’s notice. Involve those around you.
– Make eye contact. Eyes truly are windows to the soul – use yours and look into those of your loved ones.
– Every day is a new day. He doesn’t hold on to troubles (or times when he’s in trouble!) and he wakes up each morning ready to live life to the fullest.
– Age is just a number. Bernard still looks and acts like a puppy and he’s healthy as can be. We should focus more on how we feel and living a healthy life.
– Don’t sweat the small stuff. With so many things to appreciate in the world (each other, naps, food on the table, rolling in the grass), the more we can focus on those the better.
– Show your people how much you love them. There’s literally nothing I love more than pulling up to my house and seeing Bernard’s happy face and wagging tail. No matter how many times I return home in a day, he reacts this way…literally the best greeting committee ever. I never wonder if he’s excited to see me.
Wishing you a fantastic 2019 full of all good things!
xx
