From the Founder, February 2019
Happy February! (how can it already be February?!)
When I was in lower school (7th and 8th grade), I was a cheerleader. Yes, it’s true. Photos (which will hopefully never see the light of day…or specifically social media) do exist. My recollections of my high school persona are vague. I felt dorky and uncomfortable. I didn’t like my clothes. I didn’t feel that great in my own skin. One of many reasons I think it’s funny in hindsight that I was a cheerleader. There I was, cheering other people on.
In some ways, I’ve been a cheerleader my whole life. I’ve tried to proactively support those around me – family, friends, clients…even acquaintances – in their endeavors. In my work as a marketing and PR professional, we’re cheering on our clients constantly. Whether that’s promoting them to others or providing business (and sometimes emotional) support, that’s what we do!
Recently, I was fortunate enough to receive an award from BlogHer – a Voices of the Year Trailblazer award. Such a huge honor! It occurred to me that now, after years of supporting the “voices” of my clients, I, too, have a voice and am using it. One of many realizations throughout the process of writing and launching The Feminine Revolution.
And now, more than ever, I appreciate my cheerleaders. My family, my friends, my amazing team at S&Co – they have been cheering me along every step of the way. People have literally crawled out of the woodwork to support me. It has been unbelievable. (I already dedicated one blog post to this.)
The various ways that people have shown their support – big and small – is so inspiring to me that it makes me want to do even more cheerleading. To find places I can do more to show my support for those around me who are taking risks, putting themselves out there, and fighting the good fight. I’ve always made this a priority but this experience makes me want to do even more.
So I urge you to look around and see where you can do some additional cheerleading. People who might need a little boost. Places you can make a difference, big or small.
Wishing you a wonderful month!
xx
