Day In The Life of Our Spring Interns

Our “Day in the Life” series takes a look at the lives of some of our interns and colleagues. This week we invite you to learn all about our wonderful spring interns! Melanie Guan is studying Marketing and Dance at LMU, Natalie Menicucci is studying Sociology and Environmental Studies at LMU, Ciana Miranda is studying Mass Media Film at Mount Saint Mary’s University, Christine Petersen is studying English and Public Relations at LMU, and Julia Saunders is studying Communication Studies and Public Relations at LMU.

Q: What has been your favorite college class?

MG: Modern Dance III

NM: Deviant Behavior

CN: My favorite college class that I have taken so far is Media Anthropology. In this class we study the different cultural aspects of mass media in today’s society.

CP: My first ever journalism class! It was called A Longform Journalism Practicum: The Human Condition. It was an immersive journalism class focused on human connection and individual human experiences. For the final project, we each wrote a longform journalism piece on a subculture we immersed ourselves in all semester. I did mine on a club at USC!

JS: U.S. Politics

Q: What is your favorite TV show?

MG: The Office, Game of Thrones, Parks and Recreation

NM: The Office has to be my all-time favorite!

CN: I don’t watch TV a lot, but when I do it’s usually a reality show or the home and garden network.

CP: This is Us, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

JS: House Hunters, Say Yes to the Dress

Q: What is your favorite food?

MG: I love all foods!

NM: Anything Italian!

CN: My favorite food is Chinese.

CP: BBQ Chicken Pizza from California Pizza Kitchen

JS: Macaroni and Cheese

Q: Foods you dislike?

MG: None J

NM: Avocados, olives, raspberries, blueberries, mushrooms, pickles and salmon

CN: I don’t dislike any type of food.

CP: Pickles!!

JS: Seafood

Q: Favorite place to eat or restaurant?

MG: Boiling Crab, Din Tai Fung, and House of Prime Rib

NM: Scopa Italian Roots in Venice

CN: My favorite place to eat is Benihana.

CP: A burger restaurant in Torrance called Stacked because you build and order your burger on an iPad!

JS: The Beverly Hills Hotel

Q: Favorite dish you like to make yourself?

MG: Dumplings

NM: Roasted chicken with vegetables

CN: I like to make tacos.

CP: Omelet and potatoes!

JS: Quesadillas

Q: Are you a morning or night person?

MG: Night person for sure

NM: Morning – I love waking up early and starting my day right away

CN: I am morning person who has to have coffee before they start their day.

CP: Depends on the week, but usually a night person! A lot of my favorite memories have been from staying up late with college friends.

JS: Night person

Q: What do you like to do when you have a day off or to yourself?

MG: Hike to a waterfall and swim there

NM: I like to get a good work out whether it be going to the gym, hot yoga, or going on a hike — I definitely like catch up on some self-care time! I also love doing fun activities with my best friends like going to the beach or trying new restaurants.

CN: I like to relax in my room and put on a sheet mask. I also enjoy going to concerts with my friends and exploring in downtown LA.

CP: Clean my apartment, get ice cream with friends, journal, or sit by the window and read a book!

JS: Go shopping or go to the beach

Q: Favorite city to visit?

MG: My hometown, Palo Alto!

NM: New York City

CN: I love traveling and seeing new places. My favorite city so far has been Atlanta.

CP: Chicago- I’ve went once when I was in fifth grade, and I’ve wanted to go back ever since.

JS: Paris

Q: Favorite book?

MG: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

NM: Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes – it’s life changing!

CN: I don’t have a favorite book.

CP: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

JS: The Hunger Games

Q: If you could live with only one: Instagram, Facebook or Twitter?

MG: Instagram

NM: Twitter – it’s hilarious

CN: Instagram.

CP: Instagram! I love photography!

JS: Instagram

Q: Is there anything specific you want to do while you’re in LA?

MG: Take more dance classes at Playground LA and Millennium.

NM: I’d love to go to the Broad Museum

CN: I really want to be able to move into my own apartment by my senior year of college.

CP: Ride the Glass SkySlide at the US Bank Tower in Downtown LA. It is a glass slide 1,000 feet in the air!

JS: I want to take cooking classes with local chefs
