Olympian Joyce lends her support to Carly’s Club

Two-time Olympian Kara Lynn Joyce will take to the waters of Lake Erie on Sunday as part of the annual Carly’s Crossing event.

In its seventh year, Carly’s Crossing is an open water swimming event that raises money for Carly’s Club, which funds research and support for pediatric cancer, patients and their families.

Joyce, a native of Brooklyn who currently lives in Athens, Ga., won four Olympic silver medals as part of U.S. relay teams in both the 2008 and 2004 Games. Joyce was part of the silver-medal 4×100 freestyle relay and 4×100 medley relay teams in both Olympiads.

She will be at Gallagher Beach on Sunday to talk with participants and fans. Joyce also is scheduled to swim in the 600-yard event with some of the top fundraisers.

Carly’s Crossing is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes four events that cover two distances – a one-mile swim (both a timed wave and non-competitive waves) and a 600-yard swim (again, with timed and non-competitive waves). Donations can be made to swimmers online at carlyscrossing.org.
