Happy October!
My newest obsession is essential oils. Last year, I was traveling to Tulum and sitting on the bus next to a woman who pulled out this beautiful bag of DoTERRA essential oils. She started talking about all the ways she uses them and shared some with me on the spot and I was hooked.
I’ve always had essential oils at home – usually from impulse purchases and likely I haven’t been using them properly or enough.
Recently, I had the great fortune of reconnecting with an old friend who came in and shared her wisdom about the benefits and since then, I’ve been using them every day and everywhere. I took a pouch-full of them to Sri Lanka and used them for everything from cleaning the air to dealing with headaches and nausea. A gamechanger!
First of all, there are a few different ways to consume:
Put a couple of drops on your hands, rub your hands together, cup them and take at least three deep breaths to ingest the oils (you will literally feel the benefits immediately)
Use a few drops of your oils in a diffuser… at home, at work, both!
Put drops in water (make sure that the oils you’re using are safe to ingest first!)
Put drops of the oil in key spots (your temples, wrists, bottoms of your feet); these are places that will quickly absorb into your blood stream
Make sure you’re getting high quality oils. I’m now working with DoTERRA so I’m biased. The oils are amazing. You can tell they’re high quality because of how they smell but more importantly, how they make you feel.
And here are a few of my favorites for daily use…
Peppermint: great if you need a pick-me-up anywhere, anytime; put a few drops on your hands when you’re hitting the afternoon wall; put a few drops in your water for digestion and/or to freshen things up (it tastes great!!); I was recently in a hotel room that smelled like smoke and left my oils bag open and because my peppermint might have been slightly open, when I came back from dinner, the whole room smelled fresh and the air was clean… incredible!
Lavender: this is great before bed or anytime you need to relax; I’m keeping some at the office because it’s a great alternative to reacting to something (negatively) on the spot; put a few drops in the bath and/or on your pillowcase before bed; this helps with headaches or even a hangover; on and on with the lavender!
Lemon: also great for water (alkalizing); and my favorite use of the lemon is on my hands – a couple of drops are a much better (and natural) option than chemical-based hand sanitizers.
Each day I learn something new about the oils and I’m loving it.
Jump on the essential oil bandwagon and have a fabulous month!
xx
