It is (mostly) a consensus that sugar is bad for your health. Many people use coconut sugar as a “healthier” alternative to cane sugar. Dr. Robert Zembroski, along with registered dietitian Stephanie Ferrari, share their insights on the healthiness of coconut sugar in this Popsugar article.
In the article, Dr. Zembroksi explains that both cane and coconut sugar contain similar amounts of fructose. He says. “Too much fructose in the diet can disrupt metabolic functions in the liver and is linked to metabolic syndrome – a condition of high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high triglycerides in the blood, and obesity.”
