MT HOOD, OR – June 2011 – The biggest names in the action sports industry showed up on Mount Hood to take part in Windells’ unveiling of its campus overhaul and it’s new mile-and-a-half snow park. Helping to launch Windells’ 26th season were action sports superstars that included Forrest Baily, Will Bateman, Silas Baxter Neal, Mason Aguirre and Sage Kotsenburg with Winter X games perfect scorer Bobby Brown set to arrive later this week.

Nike 6.0’s snow team including Ellery Hollingsworth, Mason Augurrie,Mason Aguirre, Greg Bretz and Matt Ladley have been working with campers during the early sessions. Other top snowboarders who showed up to work with campers include Nial Romanek and Johnny Lazz.

Top skaters at Windells first two sessions include John Cardiel, Willis Kimble, Josh Borden, Jeff Grosso and Peter Hewitt. Skate teams from Thrasher, Santa Cruz, Habitat and Antihero, Creature and Lifeblood have been helping to “break in” the concrete jungle.

Windells is known as an international hub – a gathering place for elite snowboarders. This has a lot to do with the fact that every US Olympic medal winning snowboarder has attended Windells. The legendary Shaun White went to Windells from age 6 to age 12. Other famous Windells campers include Hannah Teter, Gretchen Bleiler, Kelly Clark, and Danny Kass.

But this season’s opening has been a bigger draw. Campers were greeted by the best snow conditions in the country with Mount Hood’s record snowfall. At the epi-center of its off-season improvements to Windells Camp is the expansion of its snow park stretching over a mile and a half long, making it the biggest in North America. The camps also added two new Bag Jumps and now have a total of four both on campus and on the hill. The park also now has over 50 rails, and two new rope tows accessing the park’s 15 new features. On campus, the Windells skate crew added 20 thousand feet to its existing 60 thousand feet -creating a total of 80,000 total square feet of skating terrain on campus.

Founded in 1988 by nine time National Champion and 2-time Vice World Champion snowboarder Tim Windell, Windells has been a world leader in action sports for the past two decades. The camp’s goal is to not only improve kids’ skills on the slopes and on the street, but also create a fun and safe place for kids to creatively express themselves through sports.

From building permanent half-pipes, cheese wedge jumps to creating new moves and fighting scoring regulations in competitions, Windells has been a pioneer in action sports. Windells is also the world’s only privately owned campus and features a permanent, year round half-pipe and ski runs as well as BMX dirt bike paths, indoor skate park with foam pit and on-site housing and accommodations for campers. For those who have been there, Windells is known as the funnest place on earth.
